by Saul Teichman
Last updated April 20, 2012

The following listing is preliminary based on my perusal of the Brand journals in the ANS on December 17, 1999 and April 18, 2012. It displays the journal numbers as listed in the splitting of the collection by Armin & Horace Brand in the 1930s.

The Brand collection also contained an 1861 Philadelphia Paquet reverse double eagle, journal id 17021, purchased from the Chapman brothers 1897 M.A. Brown sale. Whether or not Brand owned a proof 1804 eagle J33 or 1865 three dollar J440 is unclear. We could not find specific references to either in the journals.

In addition to the gold patterns listed below, the Brand collection contained an extensive number of these patterns in off-metals. These are highlighted by 1872 Amazonian sets in copper and aluminum, at least one 1874 Bickford eagle in aluminum and several in copper, 2 1877 Half Unions, 2 quintuple stellas in copper, and at least 13 copper stellas (at least 2 complete sets) and 2 aluminum Stella sets.
