This unique muling of the 1866 Washington obverse with "In God We Trust" and the 1869 Liberty head obverse is believed to have been struck outside the mint from dies sold as scrap metal which were purchased by Joseph Mickley. Many of these coins, including this one, ended up in the Crosby collection. It is not known if Mickley or Crosby was the actual minter of these coins.
The coin is unique and is ex Crosby lot 1783, Garrett-JHU, B/R 3/80-Garrett II, Stacks-Auction 84, RARCOA-Auction 89, B/M 3/97, Wilcox, Heritage 2/25 - PCGS63
