This is an obverse electrotype trial piece, in white metal, by James Earl Fraser for a Panama Pacific Exposition quarter along with reverse JC1915-2/P5185. Fraser is best known today as the designer of the famous buffalo nickel which was to be in circulation from 1913 to 1938 and on patterns like P1789/P2025. This electrotrial appears to be unique and was part of the Fraser estate and sold in Bowers and Ruddy's 1981 ANA sale. Photo Courtesy of Heritage from their 11/03 sale.
