This copper trial of an eagle was believed when offered in the Bowers and Merena 3/92 sale as a possible two cent trial because of the similarity to the eagle used on the 1836 two cent pattern J53/P54. Previous to this, the coin was offered in RARCOA's 5/77 sale as part of lot 273.

We believe that this is a stretch. It is not known if it is even a mint product or was struck as a trial for a token, button or other item. For this reason, it was not assigned a number in the new Judd book.

In any event, we note its listing in the Pollock book and will let interested parties decide on its true nature.
