This is a regular dies trial piece, struck in brass, of the 1908 St. Gaudens design with the No Motto reverse used in 1907-1908. These are listed in Appendix A in earlier editions of Judd. These were flattened by being passed through rollers removing most design details except for the edge device which is still sharp on these. The illustrated example is ex Nagy, Kosoff 58 ANA, B/M 9/89, Scotsman Auctions 10/05, Rau-Heritage 4/18 - PCGSP01 although the grade is meaningless. The coin is as produced.
