Although called a regular dies trial piece in the reference works, this was more likely deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete off-metal sets.
Examples are known as follows: To see images of all of these, click here.
Copper J790/Pollock delisted with 2 examples noted in the literature as ex Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand and another ex Newcomer.
Aluminum J791/P877 with at least the following 2 confirmed:
1) Farouk?, B/R RCR #21-24 (1974-5) part of set?, B/R RCR #26 (1976) part of set?, Lauder-Doyle Galleries 12/83 lot 652 or 653, Heritage 8/14 - PCGS65, possibly lacquered, illustrated above, click on the thumbnail image to enlarge
2) Lauder-Doyle Galleries 12/83 lot 652 or 653, Simpson-Heritage 8/21 - PCGS66 with a toning streak under the first S in STATES on the reverse
Note: The Lauder sale used the same image of #2 for both coins in the catalog in error.
Earlier pedigrees for these 2 include Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand and for the other Newcomer.
It is possible that the Bowers & Ruddy Rare Coin Review piece represents a third example.
Nickel J792/P878 with 2 confirmed:
1) Simpson-Heritage 8/21 - PCGS65
2) an example on PCGS.com/CoinFacts - PCGS65 with a spot on leaf below the G in GOD, illustrated below courtesy of Heritage

One of these is ex Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand.
Silver-copper J793/P879 with planchets produced such that one side has streaks of silver and the other side is primarily copper. These are said to have been struck from native Michigan ore according to the 1890 Parmelee sale with regard to its use on some 1865 two cent trials J407/P477. We can trace the following 5 examples.
1) Smithsonian, entirely copper on obverse, mostly silver on reverse
2) Lauder-Doyle Galleries 12/83, Simpson-Heritage 9/20 - PCGS63, entirely copper on obverse, mostly silver on reverse - see first illustration below
3) Farouk, RARCOA 4/72, Melnick 11/83, Simpson-Heritage 11/20 - PCGS62, cleaned, lacquered mostly silver on obverse and entirely copper on reverse - see second illustration below
4) Lohr, Polis-B/M 6/91 - proof 60 mostly copper with a diagonal streak of silver across the obverse
5) Hughes 1/80 (planchet flaw)?, Superior 1/88 - proof 60 mostly copper with streaks of silver across the obverse with a planchet crack from 8:00 to 3:00.
Note: Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand had a pair - one silver-copper and the other copper-silver - and Newcomer also had one.
