Although described as regular dies trial pieces, these were actually deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete off-metal sets.
The aluminum and steel trials for this year used the same overpolished reverse die as used on the 1865 pattern J418/P490. The copper ones apparently did not as the example in Heritage 4/14 sale was not from this reverse.
