The regular dies trial piece. The copper examples were more likely deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete sets. Four copper sets have been accounted for. T. Harrison Garrett had one, a mostly complete double set was apparently stolen from the Iowa State Historical Museum and a 4th set missing the half dollar was offered in Europe in 2022.

Examples were also struck in nickel J588/P653 with only 2 or 3 known one of which, ex Stacks 5/97, Superior 10/00 - PCGS62, is illustrated below.
As 2 examples were in Mehl's 6/41 Dunham and Sothebys 2/54 Farouk sale, there should be at least one other out there.

Judd also lists these as being struck in silver-nickel J589 but we believe these are actually the same as the nickel pieces above.
