This picture is a composite using the same picture for both sides. On the true unique specimen, which is ex Brand and last sold in Superior's June 1877 Crouch sale, one of the dies is cracked. It was consigned by Armin Brand to BG Johnson in 1936. This muling is believed to have been struck outside the mint from dies sold as scrap metal which were purchased by Joseph Mickley. Many of these coins ended up in the Crosby collection. It is not known if Mickley or Crosby was the actual minter of these coins. For additional information click here
