This is the second shield nickel design with small motto and split date combined with the Short 5 reverse.
Examples were struck as follows:
Nickel J494/P581 possibly unique as the only listing I could find was lot 252 in J.C. Morgenthau's July 1939 sale.
Copper and/or Bronze J495-J496/P582 with a half dozen known combined including one in the Connecticut State Library. One of each was in the Lohr Fixed Price List. To view available images, click here.
Incomplete white metal obverse splashers, P3278 and P3279 are in the collection of the Library Company of Philadelphia.
The obverse die contains a die cutting error. The motto was started too far to the right in a location similar to the regular 1866 shield nickel obverse die and then corrected. The second leaf points to the remnants of the letter "T" as shown in the image below.
