The status of this piece is uncertain. It looks similar but inferior in quality to Paquet's design of 1858 J222-J223/P268-P269. Its relief is lower, the number 1 and 5 punches used in the date are different and the design overall appears less polished which causes many people to believe it to be a private issue. Whatever its status, an example was listed as lot 2974 in Woodward's March 1865 Bache I sale. Only about a half dozen examples are believed to exist. To see all available images, click here.
