The regular dies trial piece struck in copper. These are believed to be true die trials, ie, struck to test the dies and not collectors coins as was the case for most off-metal patterns struck in the 1860s through the 1880s.

The only example known, struck using 1795 Overton-117 dies was cut down and used as a planchet to strike a regular 1795 Breen 6a, Cohen 6a half cent per the Goldberg 2011 Dave collection catalog. It is ex Ruby-Superior 2/74, Superior 10/77, Davy-Goldberg 9/11.
