This is the regular 1922 Sandblasted Proof high relief dollar. Although long collected as one of the prime rarities in the Peace dollar series, it is actually a pattern produced when J2018 was rejected. These were struck with a new reverse die which has the length of the rays through the N in One, and also the the ones under the P and R in Pluribus being longer on the 1922 reverse as shown below.

About 20 are believed to have been struck based on the envelope accompanying the Baker example sold in I&L Goldberg's June 2014 sale with about a dozen confirmed.

A single circulated example ex Ex Ernest Lush, who discovered the coin in Lathrup Village, Michigan in the late 1970s; Michigan collection; RARCOA's session of Auction '83, July 1983, lot 1295; Gwyn Houston; Julian Leidman (on consignment at the 1992 ANA Convention); our (Bowers and Merena's) Rarities Sale of August 1995, lot 208; Heritage's CSNS Signature Sale of April 2002, lot 6536; our (Stack's) Orlando Sale of January 2007, lot 979; Heritage's August 2022 Signature Auction, lot 3983 as PCGSVF25, StacksBowers 11/24 - NGCVF25 also exists.

Ultimately, this was rejected and the medium relief J2020 was the next step in the creation of a circulating Peace dollar in 1922.
