This is one of 6 Washington nickel patterns produced in 1909, 2 of which, like the present example have Washington's portrait facing to the left. This used to be J1787 in earlier editions. For additional information on these, click here.
This one has the date with large 9s and a slightly larger portrait than on J1938/P2021. This used to be J1786 in earlier editions.
The reverse is new and was also used on a 1910 pattern J1942/P2023. This used to be J1788 in earlier editions.
Only 2 are known and both are in the Smithsonian.
