This is probably the most popular variety of this year. It is believed that this pattern was created to correct for the regular production issue not having the denomination 5 Cents on it. Unscrupulous individuals were apparently gold plating the nickels and passing them off as half eagles.

Nickel J1717/P1922 with over a dozen believed to exist.

Copper J1718/P1923 which is apparently unique and is ex Brenner-1914 ANS exhibit, V. Brand (journal #92500:1682), Horace Brand, unknown intermediaries, Heritage 8/94 ANA, Heritage 8/96 ANA sales and is presently in a PCGS65RED holder. To see images of this and the next, click here.
