Longacre's flying eagle design. This was apparently copied from Christian Gobrecht's dollar and half dollar patterns in the late 1830s. This is one of the first attempts to create a smaller copper cent.

This 1854 obverse was supposedly combined with 3 different reverses. On this one, there are four leaves beneath the "E" in "States" as used on 1855 pattern J167-J171/P193-P197.
