George T. Morgan's famous Liberty Head design previously believed to have been modeled after Anna Williams. Research by Robert W. Julian notes that this is actually the first of the 4 Morgan dies of this year.

Only 3 or 4 examples are known as follows: To see images of all of these, click here.

1) Judd, Numismatic Enterprises 2/66, Coronet Coin FPL, Champa-B/R 5/72, Bass-HWBRF, B/M 5/99, Superior 7/99 FPL, Superior 9/99 (not sold), M. Hagen, Simpson-Heritage 8/21 – PCGS66RB double struck on obverse about 5 degrees off and is the illustrated piece. To view better images of the double striking, click

2) Farouk-Sothebys 2/54, Bolender 3/55 ?, Davidson-B/R 11/76, B/R 9/84, Fred-B/M 11/95, Superior 2/05 (not sold), ANR 6/05 (not sold), B/M 8/05 (not sold), Goldberg 2/06 (not sold), Stacks 6/06, Queller-Heritage 1/09, Heritage 3/10 - PCGS63RB, Stacks-Bowers 3/12 cleaned - Pollock plate

3) Maris 6/1886, Garrett-JHU, Stacks 3/76, Evans-B/M 8/98, Simpson-Heritage 8/22 - PCGS66BN (medallic die alignment)

4) Anderson/Dupont-Stacks 11/54 - same as #1 ?

The Farouk, Bolender 3/55 could be Judd’s with the Anderson/Dupont-Stacks 11/54 example being #2. The cleaning determined my pedigree.

This design was also struck in silver J1520/P1684 with only the Garrett coin known.
