George T. Morgan's famous Liberty Head design previously believed to have been modeled after Anna Williams. Research by Robert W. Julian notes that this is actually the first of the 4 Morgan dies of this year.

Only a single example is known and it is ex G. Cogan in 1883, Garrett-JHU, Garrett I as J1518 (withdrawn due to its weight-175 grains), Garrett II as J1519, Superior 6/92, B/M 5/93 as PCGS62 silverplated, Heritage 7/03, B/M 12/03 as NGC63, M. Hagen, ANR 12/05 (not sold), Heritage 2/06 - NGC63 as silverplated, Virginia collection, Heritage 2/17 - NGC63, now renumbered.

The coin was recently retested and was found to be 91.8% silver and 8.2% copper with a specific gravity of 10.34.

This design was also struck in copper J1519/P1683 with only 3 known.
