Although described as a regular dies trial piece in the literature, it is more likely that this was deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete off-metal sets. Examples were struck as follows: Copper J1041. This is unlisted in Pollock. If any do exist, they are probably masquerading as a regular issue proof. Aluminum J1042/P1176 with only 2 confirmed: 1) Heritage 6/02 as PCGS64, now PCGS66 with lint mark from E in CENT, illustrated above, click on the thumbnail image to enlarge 2) Lauder-Doyle Galleries 12/83 - gem proof One of these is ex Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand and the other is ex Woodin-Newcomer. Nickel J1042A/P1177 which is believed to be unique and is ex NN 6/67, Stacks 6/86 on a heavy 68.25 grain planchet. The piece is worn, graded fine, and weakly struck.
