This is Frank Gasparro's Liberty head design for a smaller dollar coin. It was rejected in favor of his Susan B. Anthony design which was produced from 1979 to 1981 and then resumed for one year in 1999. Three different trial strikes on copper-nickel clad planchets were produced.
