This is an electrotype trial piece, in white metal, for the obverse by James Earl Fraser later used on the famous buffalo nickel which was to be in circulation from 1913 to 1938 and on patterns like P1789/P2025.

4 examples of this 'electrotrial' were found in the Fraser estate. 3 sold in Bowers and Ruddy's 1981 ANA sale and the other in Bowers and Merena's 1/85 sale.
