The so-called 1868 large cent.

This is a fantasy coin deliberately made for sale to collectors. An example was in Mint Director Linderman's collection sold in 1888 as lot 69. About a dozen or so are known in copper including examples in the ANS and CSL, and one, the former Lauder example that is circulated.

Examples were also struck in nickel J610/P675 which are rarer, with only 7 known, but these are not as popular as their copper brethren.
