This fantasy muling of the 1858 flying eagle design with small letters and the regular 1864 indian head design without "L" was probably deliberately struck for sale to collectors.

Its first auction occurrence was as lot 570 of an October 1868 Mason & Company sale. Only 3 or 4 examples are known today including the one illustrated above which is ex Paramount 11/74, Heritage 3/07, Stacks 7/08 and one in the Lemus-Queller collection.
