Longacre's flying eagle design. This was apparently copied from Christian Gobrecht's dollar and half dollar patterns in the late 1830s.
This obverse was combined with 3 different reverse designs.
On this one, there are four leaves beneath the "E" in "States". This reverse was also used on J167-J171/P193-P197.

These were struck in copper or bronze and is much rarer than the J163/189. Judd says that these are restrikes.
